Athletes always go to their training sessions ready to work hard, hoping to achieve the best. This also applies to students who hope to improve their maths confidence in a positive way. I think we will all agree with this quote, which came from a former English footballer, 'Training is not a pastime, it is a necessity for a sportsman who wants to reach his full potential.' I will therefore write a post here on the site that has maths with its own football/soccer analogy....
Over the past decade or so NFL (National Football League) has become an American institution. The first major game was in 1920!! The USA has produced World Champions in various sports, including football. In 2005, during the Super Bowl national TV audience of nearly 120 million (isn't that amazing for an American sport? he said) watched a last minute fan touchdown to win for the Pittsburgh Steelers. To bring us back to the point at hand, NFL has a prestigious set of rules for all football games.
Recently I came across an interesting statistic. The USA (NFL) has the biggest TV audience for football of any country, with more than 320 million viewers between the ages of 18 and 49. China is second with 109 million. Furthermore, over 12 million Americans play football but only 1.5 million play professionally. Undoubtedly, it is the World of Football that is the place to be for today's teenagers. Let's face it, Donald Trump is just about the only person in the USA who can afford to play football and so, if he becomes President which he may, he will be playing against himself and other rich Americans.
Speaking of Donald Trump, as you will remember, he made a huge donation to the re-election of his friend, Barack Obama. There was no proof of this though and it was denied by the Liberal Democratic party. However the truth came to light. An investigation by Buzzfeed News in 2017 challenged the main claim that Trump had donated $100,000 to Barack Obama's re-election campaign for president in 2007. It turned out that Donald Trump had made a personal donation of $1,000 to Obama in the previous election, for $20,000 more to be donated by someone else. d2c66b5586
