MKV is becoming the mainstreaming format the torrent video sites using for its flexible and advanced encoding method to store a large number of video/audio data in relative smaller file size. But MKV is not a friendly format to Premiere Elements (15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10). To put it simple, all versions of Premiere Elements including Elements 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10 don't support MKV format.

Best TiVo and DVR recording converter with fast speed TiVo (.*tivo) files recorded by a TiVo DVR or lots of DVR shows can be converted to H.264/MPEG-4/MP4 files for playback on iPad and other mobile devices, like iPhone 4, iPod touch 4..., or can be converted to AVI/WMV for watching in Windows Media Player and Windows Media Center.
Video Converter is the fastest converter that I've tried and I've tried several over the years. The output quality is better than the others and the mp4 "compliance" is better, that is, your product complies with mp4 standards well whereas some other converters do not. File size: Just a note: Video Converter does a great job reducing the file size (almost 1/3!) while maintaining sufficient video quality - I hardly notice the difference between the source and output files!June 4, 2012
I use Pavtube for coverting TiVo videos for my iPad. It works very well and I haven't really had any problems. Conversion speed seems fine and the videos look good on the iPad. I saw Pavtube mentioned in the TiVo forums as a good way to convert for the iPad so I decided to try it. It's much better than TiVo's converter. TiVo's converters for mobile devices are terrible.June 28, 2010
I really like the software. The main reason I bought it was the VERY user friendly interface. It's very simple and direct. I'm a film student, and it converts all my footage to a small file size, which anyone will tell you is a lifesaver for any hard drive. There was one other converter I was looking at, but yours won. As you can see, our recommended video converters represent a broad range of software, with VideoProc and Wondershare UniConverter topping the list. Ultimately, the tool you choose should depend on exactly what you’re looking for in a video converter. Price is often top of the list of criteria, but here are some other important aspects to consider:

Functionality: A video converter’s feature list is a good place to start in your decision-making process. For example, if you just need simple conversions, you can get away with a barebones software, but if you’re looking for editing options and features like subtitles or captions, you may need to look for a more robust tool.
Formats: Most of the converters on our list support a broad range of formats, but be sure to check these include the ones you plan to use most often.
User-friendliness: Some video conversion tools, especially those with lots of features, can seem a bit overwhelming, especially for beginners. Thankfully, many tools offer free trials so you can test out their usability before parting with your cash.
Customer support: There are plenty of reasons you might need to contact customer support when setting up or using a video converter. Having live-chat support available is ideal, but at the least, you’ll want your provider to have an intuitive knowledge-base and an easy-to-use webform for submitting queries.

@type":"Person
Aimee O'Driscoll
Aimee is a tech and cybersecurity editor with a focus on consumer privacy and security. We’ve featured some free tools above, including freemium software such as DivX and Freemake, as well as one completely free option: HandBrake. While these aren’t necessarily bad options, there are some possible downsides to be aware of:

Watermarks: Some providers will add their logo to free conversions to help advertise the service or encourage users to upgrade to a paid, watermark-free tool. Some watermarks are unobtrusive, for example, remaining in the corner of the video, and may be acceptable to some users. Others are large and appear in the center of the frame throughout the video, making them more of a nuisance.
Length limits: Common in freemium software, a provider might limit the conversion length to something like five minutes or half of the original video.
Limited features: It requires resources to keep software updated with the latest features, so you may find that a free tool doesn’t have the functionality you’re looking for.
Prompts to upgrade: Freemium tools will often bombard users of the free software with upsell popups. This doesn’t impact use of the tool itself but can become an annoyance over time.

@type":"Person
Aimee O'Driscoll
Aimee is a tech and cybersecurity editor with a focus on consumer privacy and security. First off, how frequently do you have to edit videos? If you're just doing it occasionally for fun, you might be alright with the free version (assuming there is one).
On the other hand, if you really need access to the premium features, and you convert videos often (for instance, as part of your job), a lifetime license can really seem appealing. In these situations, we'd suggest starting with an annual plan just to see if you actually like the software first, then going for the lifetime subscription at a later date. Of course, if there's only a few dollars' difference in the price, then by all means, snag the lifetime plan first.
@type":"Person
Aimee O'Driscoll
Aimee is a tech and cybersecurity editor with a focus on consumer privacy and security.
