Upon return to the present, it is revealed that the USSR is victorious, having conquered most of Western Europe. Oddly enough, though, the chain of command has been broken and Cherdenko is now premier, much to General Krukov's dismay. Suddenly, a message appears from Soviet bases in the east: a new enemy has arisen, the Empire of the Rising Sun, a technological super-power bent on achieving its \"divine destiny\" of world conquest. Krukov orders a nuclear strike on the Allies and the Empire, but is met with blank stares. Apparently, Einstein's removal from the timeline has made nuclear weapons nonexistent. Dr. Zelinsky comments: \"Who knows what nightmares we have created\"
Company of Heroes (CoH) is a WW2 real time strategy game released in 2006 and brought to mobile devices in 2020. Serving as the first in the series of strategy games players have a number of historic battles to conquer with realistic locations, units and familiar storylines. One convention that might be particularly annoying to braille readers, but may go unnoticed by those reading the book in print or through listening, is the manner in which braille keyboard commands are presented. Keyboard commands from braille displays are typically a combination of the numbered keys, 1 through 6. The command to go to the Home screen on the iPad, for instance, is executed by pressing the Home button on the iPad itself or the space bar plus the letter H from the braille display. (The braille letter H is formed by pressing the keys for dots 1, 2, and 5 in combination.) The way this is generally indicated in educators' manuals or user guides for braille devices is to connect the names of keys with hyphens. That is, in the case of directing the reader to press the keys for H, an instruction will read \"Press 1-2-5.\" In this book, the word \"plus\" is used instead of those hyphens. Thus, the same instruction reads, \"Press 1 plus 2 plus 5.\" While this is admittedly a somewhat tedious point, I found it annoying as a braille reader. Instead of a few spaces, a keyboard command might take up nearly an entire line written in this way, and since keyboard commands are frequently and generously provided, the issue comes up a lot.
Apps use lists to present many choices, such as in the Settings and Information screens. When a list appears, the device will announce the number of items in the list. The previous screen item is not taken into account in the device's calculations of how many items are in the list. To move within the list, you place your finger on the screen and the device will announce the item currently selected. You can make the list scroll upwards and downwards by slightly moving your finger upwards and downwards on the screen. An ascending tone sequence indicates that the list will scroll upwards, and a descending tone sequence indicates that the list will scroll downwards. Once you gesture to start the list scrolling, the scrolling will continue until you lift your finger to make a selection. You can tap with another finger to cut off the speaking of an item and advance to the next. You cannot do this quickly to move by multiple items as the list must stop for a moment on every item. A single tone will play to alert you when you reach the first item in the list.
Along with the app's version number, Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy, the About menu includes a setting labeled \"Enable Auto-Focus Sound.\" If you enable this setting, TapTapSee will sound a double beep when your item is in focus. There is no flash setting, so the app defaults to auto-flash mode. I found the auto-focus sound feature extremely useful and not only for photo accuracy. If you do not close TapTapSee after you use it, the app will continue to auto-focus on one item after another until your phone is locked. If you're like me and run your iPhone with auto-lock set to \"Never,\" the alert beep is handy as it will remind you the app is still running in the foreground. 153554b96e
