A Sega spokesperson told GameSpot that there is no current plans to make an animated Sonic movie. Sega's official website has also been silent on the matter. The company has not officially commented on a rumored Sonic Boom movie.
Bronzewing is a project that has been in the making for over a decade and has been a dream of many for that time. It started all the way back on January of 2001 when Alexis Armstrong, a graphics designer working for Ubisoft in Montreal, had an idea of making a fan film to try and raise money. He failed, but he kept the idea alive. In 2003, he sent it to some contact who sent it to Ed Boon, who was impressed with the idea. The idea was then passed on to his friend Aaron Webber, who helped make it a reality. Aaron quickly turned it into a full-fledged video game, titled Bronzewing and released later that year. It is a very well-balanced multiplayer game which was released exclusively for the PlayStation 2.
The original Sonic franchise is actually a very well-balanced and successful one. It did great, especially in Japan, and it had a massive amount of merchandise, selling millions of dollars worth of toys, clothes, comics, and even mugs. But the American side was not so lucky. There's only one notable exception, the Archie Comics, which did okay but never really gained traction.
In September, it was announced that the film would be released in 3D on October 9, 2020, with a 2D release on October 16. It is the first 3D Sonic film in the franchise's history, as well as the first Sonic film not starring Sonic the Hedgehog.[49][50]
It was also revealed that the film would be a prequel to the first Sonic the Hedgehog film. It is set in a world where the destruction of Metropolis drives the four Chaos Emeralds into the hands of a human villain. Sonic does not play a role in the film's plot, and is just a character being portrayed by the villain. This was confirmed by the end of December 2019.
In February 2020, the film's official Facebook page posted an image teasing a new trailer, which received negative feedback from fans. With the reveal of the redesigned Sonic, it is unclear whether or not the teaser image for the new trailer was part of the official marketing for the film, or if it was a leak from the fandom. The new trailer was released on March 31, 2020.
